In September 2017 we are bringing the story of the national parks of Aotearoa New Zealand to Beijing, China. This exhibition is being hosted at the Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture and shows how the National Park idea has evolved over the last 150 years in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is common to consider all National Parks have had a common set of influences that led to their development, and also that each park has the same set of values. This exhibition will show how ideas of the purpose of a National Park have considerably changed over time. We also present a range of futures that give choices to what conservation parks could become in this century. Hosting the exhibition in Beijing provides an opportunity for advocates of National Parks to consider a range of models and values that could be incorporated in the development of National Parks in China.
