Eden Project Aotearoa New Zealand 2017

The Avon Otakaro River is an ecological network that moves from the suburban west, then into Hagley Park and the CBD, before weaving and widening its way through the Red Zone before reaching the Avon Heathcote Estuary on its journey to the sea. Along its banks are sites of deep ecological, cultural and social significance. Deeply valuing the river, and in particular activating these sites, provides key opportunities to express the river’s importance to the city and provide the fundamental ‘raison d’etre’ (reason for existence) of the Eden Project: as the catalyst and incubator for transforming the city’s relationship with its waterways.
